Lesley Heslop

Lesley was born in County Durham in 1956. As a child she loved to draw. Attending Grammar School, she was taught art by the well renowned artist and illustrator, Sheila Mackie. Sheila was the inspiration that developed her interest and passion for drawing and painting.

On leaving school, Lesley attended Didsbury College of Education where she studied art as part of her teaching degree.

More recently, Lesley has become a member of the Artlook group of artists, Clarendon art group and she is also a member of the Wallop Artists in Hampshire.

She works from her studio in the garden of her cottage in Upper Clatford near Andover.

Lesley’s style is contemporary. Working mainly in acrylic on board, she enjoys painting still life and landscapes and often includes collage or mixed media in her work. Her paintings are to be viewed closely to see the little details she likes to include, such as pen work. Her colours are often muted and applied with brushes, rollers or scrapers and she enjoys finding ways of making marks and creating different textures. Her work has been described as ’calming’.

Lesley’s main exhibitions include the Wallop Artists, Goodworth Clatford, Hilliers at Romsey, Hampshire Open Studios at Broughton Village Hall and more recently, the Ilminster Arts Centre.
